Hasani: Albania will open a diplomatic representation in Sarajevo

The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, announced today that Albania is in the final stages of establishing a diplomatic representation in Sarajevo.
During a hearing on the 2024 budget at the Foreign Policy Committee, Hasani addressed the Members of Parliament’s inquiries regarding the priorities of the department he oversees for the year 2024.
According to him, Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only country among the six countries in the Western Balkans where Albania did not have a diplomatic representation.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina should be included on Albania’s diplomatic representation map for various reasons, including shared commitments and the path towards EU integration,” he stated.
When asked about pension agreements, Hasani provided information that an agreement has been reached with Italy concerning the recognition of pension contributions for both Albanian citizens in Italy and Italian citizens in Albania. Hasani mentioned that they are in the final stages of signing the agreement.
Furthermore, he also mentioned that an agreement has been reached with Greece.
“These are two important steps, but they are not sufficient to fully serve all our citizens, ensuring that they are well-treated in the states where they have made their contributions,” he emphasized.
Hasani also discussed military diplomacy, highlighting that the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs is working closely in coordination with the Ministry of Defense. Their aim is to assess the involvement of Albanian soldiers in missions, taking into account the new developments presented by the Euro-Atlantic alliance.
In conclusion, he stressed the significance of ongoing training for the Diplomatic Corps and highlighted the establishment of the Commission of Degrees within the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. Hasani emphasized the need to develop a structured program to ensure diplomats receive the necessary training at all stages of their careers.
