Albin Kurti meets Miroslav Lajcak: Ready to de-escalate the situation in the north of the country

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosova, Albin Kurti received today the EU Envoy for the Western Balkans and the Kosova-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajak.
In this meeting, Kurti emphasized that the measures against Kosova are unfair and make the dialogue with Serbia unequal.
However, Kurti has expressed readiness to de-escalate tension of the situation in the north of the country. While he pointed out that the Kosova police are only enforcing the law in the four municipalities in the north of the country.
“At the beginning of this meeting, Prime Minister Kurti emphasized that the EU’s measures against Kosova are unfair and make the dialogue asymmetrical.
Following this, he expressed his dedication and commitment to de-escalation and normalization.
He emphasized that the Government of Kosova does not contribute at all to the escalation and that the Kosova Police only enforces the law and takes care of public safety, specifying that the Police located in the municipal buildings did not undertake any operations in the vicinity of those facilities,” as the announcement of the office of Prime Minister Kurti.
Regarding the holding of early elections in the north of the country, Prime Minister Kurti has emphasized that this is clearly defined by the law on local self-government. While he added that for the normalization of relations with Serbia, the Basic Agreement must be implemented unconditionally.
“Regarding the way forward, Prime Minister Kurti said that Article 72 of the Law on Local Self-Government clearly shows the way for early elections in municipalities and that the Government strictly supports the legal procedures.
Meanwhile, in reference to the normalization of relations with Serbia, the guarantee is the full and unconditional implementation of the Basic Agreement, which brings about good neighborly and European relations for the two states”, it is further stated in the announcement of the Kosova Prime Minister’s Office.
