Tensions in the north of Mitrovica, KFOR: Dialogue mediated by the EU, the only tool for stability, parties to refrain from provocative actions

NATO’s peacekeeping mission in Kosova, KFOR has announced that they support dialogue mediated by the European Union as the only way to normalize relations between Kosova and Serbia.
In a statement, KFOR calls on the parties to work together to de-escalate the situation and refrain from provocative actions. Likewise, KFOR emphasizes that it will continue to be vigilant and fulfill its mandate in Kosova.
“KFOR continues to support the EU-facilitated dialogue as the only means to achieve irreversible and lasting stability and to mitigate tensions in the north of Kosova. We invite all parties to join together to de-escalate the situation and refrain from provocative actions that are against the interest of all people in Kosova. KFOR continues to be alert and fully capable of fulfilling its mandate derived from UN resolution 1244 to provide environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosova,” the announcement states.
Relations between Kosova and Serbia continue to remain very tense, as no progress has been made in calming the situation in the north. The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell underlined this Tuesday (June 27) that the EU will take punitive measures, political and financial, in the event that Prishtina and Belgrade do not make progress on the two main demands: Removal of Serbian protesters from municipal buildings in Serbia and the suspension of Kosova police operations in municipal buildings.
