Borrell calls for immediate release of the three Kosova officers

The head of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Joseph Borrell, has asked Serbia to immediately release the three Kosova police officers kidnapped a few days ago by Serbian forces.

Borrell asked this request directly to the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, in the meeting he held with the latter today in Brussels.

In a press conference after the separate meetings he held with the Prime Minister of Kosova, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vuaic, Borrell emphasized that the three Kosova police officers should be released immediately and unconditionally.

“I emphasized to President Vucic that the three police officers held in Serbia should be released immediately and unconditionally. The arrest or arbitrary and unjust mistreatment of prisoners is completely unacceptable,” he said.

Borrell emphasizes that it is difficult to agree on holding new elections in the north of Kosovoa

“Of course, we expect Kosova to immediately suspend these operations in the vicinity of the municipal facilities in the north and the four mayors to temporarily withdraw from the municipal facilities, while Serbia must ensure that the protesters will be withdrawn from the municipal facilities, simultaneously with the police forces and then to announce the early elections in the four municipalities, with the condition, the participation of Kosova Serbs,” said Borrell.

Borrell pointed out that he asked Prime Minister Kurti that after the normalization of the situation on the ground, the drafting of the Association’s statute should start.

The head of European diplomacy added that he will be in close contact with both sides in the coming days and that he will report to EU foreign ministers on Monday.
