The spokesperson of the European Union, Peter Stano, has stated that there is still no set date for the meeting in Brussels, where the EU has invited the Prime Minister of Kosova, Albin Kurti, and the President of Serbia, Aleksandër Vucic, to dialogue on the tensions in the north of Kosova. 

“We have said enough about expectations and possible consequences. The main issue now is to hold the meeting in Brussels and I have no latest news for that. I am not in a position to confirm any dates. It is Wednesday and until the end of the week we have a few more days, but now I cannot confirm any date or time”, Stano said.

Asked by journalists if there will be separate meetings or a bilateral meeting with the high representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, Stano said that now is the time for action and not for speculation.

“It is essential for us that the High Representative has invited the two leaders, Prime Minister Kurti and President Vucic, to come to Brussels towards the end of this week. We are waiting and we are hoping that we will be able to announce the time and date of the meeting, but the main thing is to have this, that is, the date and time of the meeting, because we have no time to lose. And now is the time for action and not for talking and speculating”, Stano emphasized.

Since the end of May, the tensions in the north of Kosovo increased significantly after the elected mayors of the municipalities in the north entered the buildings of these municipalities with the assistance of the Kosovo Police, encountering the opposition of the local Serbs.

The installation of new mayors in these municipalities was accompanied by violent protests by Serbian protesters who attacked KFOR soldiers, Kosovo police and did not spare the media and journalists of Albania and Kosovo. While on June 15, the situation reached the peak of tension between Prishtina and Belgrade, when Serbian forces kidnapped three policemen inside the territory of Kosovo.
