Meetings with Kurti and Vucic, Lajcak: We hoped for a better result, the dialogue must normalize

The EU’s special representative for the dialogue between Prishtina and Belgrade, Miroslav Lajçak hoped for a better result from the meetings he held last week together with Kosova Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Lajcak confirmed that both the EU and the US demanded immediate de-escalation, early elections with the participation of Kosovo Serbs, and a return to dialogue for normalization.
“We traveled to the region in order to address the tense situation in the north of Kosovo that we have all seen over the past week and to explore the potential for a political solution. In Kosovo we met with the highest leadership including President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi. The discussion was long. We conveyed our concern about the situation in the north and emphasized the need for immediate de-escalation,” Lajcak emphasized.
The US and EU emissaries met on June 5 with the Prime Minister of Kosova Albin Kurti, where they presented the proposal on behalf of the international community that contained three elements, which consisted of the recent developments in the north, ideas for de-escalation of the situation and the emergency for the implementation of the Prishtina-Belgrade Agreement.
Two days later, the European Union envoy for the Western Balkans and the US envoy met in Belgrade, President Aleksandar Vucic, where he called for an urgent political solution.
