Crisis in the North of Kosova, Kurti: Kosova, an uncompromising ally of the US and the EU

Kosova Prime Minister, Albin Kurti has stated that Kosova is and will be an uncompromising ally of the United States and the EU.

Speaking at the 51st meeting of the Vetëvendosje /Self-Determination/ Movement, Kurti said that the way to improve the situation in the north can only come by immediately stopping the violence of criminal gangs against the police, NATO, journalists and mayors.

Kurti called on internationals to intensify the dialogue for the implementation of the Brussels and Ohrid agreements.

Kosova stands behind the US and the EU in every sense of the word, in anti-Putin politics and democratic values. It is an uncompromising ally of the US and the European Union. The way forward for de-escalation of the situation in the north means the immediate halt of violence by criminal gangs against the police, NATO, journalists and mayors. In accordance with the security situation, with the removal of these gangs and their arrest, the police presence can be proportionately reduced, Kurit affirmed., while adding that the dialogue for the full implementation of the basic agreement of February 27 in Brussels and the implementation the annex of March 18 in Ohrid should be intensified. We need a balanced and fair sequencing of the implementation of the basic agreement.

According to Kurti, indeed, the Albanian candidates in the municipalities received few votes, but on the other hand, their opponents boycotted them and as a result did not receive any votes. For this reason, the elected mayors by have the obligation to exercise their duties until the new elections are held.

“We understand that the new mayors have received few votes, but the others have not received any. The Serbian community should participate in the elections and not boycott them. Elections must be free, open, without intimidation, or threats, without criminal gangs.

We all remember very well that on November 5 of last year in the north there was an attempt to collapse our state system with the collective resignation of 547 police officers, four mayors, prosecutors and judges and the ten MPs in the Assembly of Kosova. This attempt to destroy Kosova institutional system of our democratic Republic in the north failed,” Kurti said.

The head of Kosova government added that the elections were held in compliance with the Constitution. While he added that those who abandoned these institutions and boycotted the elections threatened those who wanted to be part of the elections.
