Kosova President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti commemorated today the 24th anniversary of the battle of Çabrati.

Osmani emphasized that the martyrs of the KLA are the seal of the state’s eternity and “we will always remember them with respect”.
“26 fighters of Brigade 137 “Gjakova”, of the Kosova Liberation Army, 24 years ago fell heroically in the Battle of Çabrati, in their attempt to come to the aid of their fellow citizens, who were subjected to the criminal actions of the genocidal regime of Serbia for three consecutive days. Nearly 100 civilians were brutally killed by the Serbian genocidal machine, over 300 were forcibly kidnapped, as the war for the protection of the home threshold raged everywhere, nearly a month before Kosova became free. The martyrs of the KLA are the seal of our state’s eternity and we will always remember them with respect!”, reads Osman’s statement.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized that we remember every day the great sacrifices that were made for the liberation of the country.
Today, in Gjakova, the 24th anniversary of the “Epic of Çabrati” will be remembered, in which dozens of martyrs of the nation were sacrificed for the freedom of Kosovo. The dates 7, 8 and 9 May 1999, for many of the citizens of Gjakova, who have been in the city since then, will remember the moments of fierce fighting between the KLA forces and the Serbian police, army and paramilitaries.
This battle was important due to the fact that the mission of the freedom fighters was the protection of thousands of civilians in the city of Gjakova. Seven martyrs and 41 civilians have fallen in this battle. Also, on May 7-8, 43 citizens of this neighborhood were kidnapped and disappeared.
