Kosova’s applying for membership in the Council of Europe is considered today

Kosova’s application for membership in the Council of Europe will be on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers this Monday (April 24). The news was announced the day before by the country’s President’s advisor, Rejhan Vuniqi.
“Kosova’s application for membership in the Council of Europe is on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers held on Monday. Let’s hope for positive developments in this important step towards European integration,” wrote Rejhan Vuniqi.
On Friday (April 21), Kosova Foreign Minister Gërvalla, after a meeting with her Swedish counterpart, said that Kosova’s request would pass very quickly from the Council of Ministers to the Parliamentary Assembly, while emphasizing that Kosova has the votes.
Kosova has applied for membership in the Council of Europe on May 12, 2022. Initially, the application is reviewed by the Committee of Ministers and then the final word is given by the Parliamentary Assembly of the national representatives of the member states. Approval is passed by 2/3 of the majority vote.
