SOFIA – Radev: Bulgaria supports the European integration of the Western Balkans

Bulgaria has returned to the focus of the EU agenda, the issue of the European integration of the Western Balkans.

“Bosnia-Herzegovina can continue to count on Bulgaria’s support for the country’s accession to the EU and the implementation of the necessary reforms,” President Rumen Radev said in a meeting with Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic, who is on an official visit to Sofia.

Radev congratulated Bosnia-Herzegovina for the EU candidate status it was granted last December, as well as for the constructive and active foreign policy it has pursued.

The head of state expressed Bulgaria’s readiness for deepening the partnership in the security sector and the possibility of military training and education within the Euro-Atlantic integration of Bosnia-Herzegovina and cooperation with NATO.

Minister Konakovic appreciated Bulgaria’s continuous support for the European future of the Western Balkans.

He informed the Bulgarian president about the progress of the country and the steps and reforms undertaken on the way to European integration.

Radev and Konakovic emphasized the importance of regional cooperation in achieving prosperity and security against the backdrop of global and European crises, which have a direct impact on the Balkans.
