Albin Kurti: I have not changed my attitude on the “Open Balkans”

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has spoken about his attitude towards the “Open Balkans” initiative.
Kurti has said that he cannot support such an initiative, which according to him, has neither a platform, nor a basic contract, nor a strategy nor an action plan.
“I have no other position. The Open Balkans, as far as I know, does not even have a website. So, it is an initiative that has neither a platform nor a basic contract, it has neither a strategy nor an action plan”, he said.
The Head of the Government has stated that the “Open Balkan” is not according to the rules of the European Union and there is no funding from the EU.
It is not according to the rules of the European Union, it does not have the financing of the European Union and I cannot support such an initiative”, said Kurti in an interview in Rubicon.
We remind you that in the framework of the “Open Balkans” initiative, Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia have reached a series of agreements, which are said to be aimed at improving regional cooperation.
The agreements, among others, include the movement of their citizens with identity cards, cooperation in facilitating the import and export of goods, as well as a memorandum of understanding and cooperation for free access to the labor market.
The three initiators of the “Open Balkans”, the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the former Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, have devised this concept in 2019 with the aim of creating an area of free movement of people, goods and services in the Western Balkans.
