Escobar: Tough deal, but necessary

The envoy of the United States, Gabriel Escobar, declared that Kosovo and Serbia reached a “difficult but necessary” agreement. After the round of dialogue held in Ohrid, North Macedonia, in which Escobar participated as an observer, the senior American official said that reaching agreement on the implementation of the European proposal enables Kosovo and Serbia to move towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
“I want to congratulate the parties for reaching a difficult but necessary agreement to achieve a peaceful and predictable relationship between them. This not only opens the door for greater Euro-Atlantic integration for both countries, but also opens the door for the region to enter a new era of peace,” he said.
When asked why the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia did not sign the agreement, Escobar said that he believes in the European Union’s mechanism for implementing the annex of the European proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
“I am grateful to our European partners for bringing us to this point and I am also grateful to the two leaders who had the political courage to achieve what they achieved tonight,” Escobar said.
