Oliver Varhelyi: The EU is investing in the Western Balkans, grants of 1.8 billion dollars

The European Union Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi has stated that a lot of work is being done to help the Western Balkans to join the European family.
“You can count on our commitment and support for the Western Balkans. We are working hard to help the region with new opportunities for businesses and citizens and to fulfill the promise that the Western Balkans will enter the EU”, said European Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi in his video speech at the Second Economic Forum in Skopje, organized by the Dephi Economic Forum and the Greek Business Association.
Varhelyi mentioned the economic plan for investments that started two years ago, within which 40 projects and grants of 1.8 billion have been approved so far.
“These projects affect the growth and acceleration of cooperation between the Western Balkans and the EU and should improve transport, digital and energy connections with the EU. These investments will push the region forward with job creation and growth. We celebrated the Belgrade Financing Agreement with the EIB and the EBRD with major projects worth 2.4 billion euros. We talked about Corridor 10, the railway corridor that connects the EU through Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia with Greece at the port of Thessaloniki. We are building green roads not only between countries, but also between our regions, the EU and the Western Balkans,” Varhelyi emphasized.
