Association in Kosova, US: We are against the creation of any entity similar to “Republika Srpska”, as in Bosnia

Regarding the Association in Kosova, the US strongly opposes the creation of any entity resembling the “Republika Srpska” in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The statement was made by the US ambassador in Kosova, Jeff Hovenier, during a communication with the media.
According to him, he and senior US officials have made it clear that they will not support any Association that is in conflict with the Constitution of Kosova, or that poses a risk to its sovereignty, that is related to independence, the multi-ethnic character or democratic institutions.
“Washington strongly opposes the creation of any entity resembling the “Republika Srpska” in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Several senior US officials have made it clear, and I want to be very clear about the US position, that we do not support any engagement that is inconsistent with the Kosova Constitution and inconsistent with the Constitutional Court decision of 2015 or that will threaten Kosova’s sovereignty, independence, multi-ethnic character or democratic institutions,” stated the American ambassador.
According to him, the US strongly opposes the creation of any entity resembling the “Republika Srpska” in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hovenier, in a communication with the media, drew attention to the government of Kosova, underlining that the US expects it to speak about its vision for the Association, as a democratic, multi-ethnic state that offers rights to minorities in accordance with the Brussels agreements and the Constitution of Kosova.
He says that the creation of the Association is an urgent matter and that the US is ready to assist Kosova with expertise and political support.
Hovenier added that the government has the opportunity now to restart efforts to establish the Association, stressing that this is very important so that Kosova can build its future towards the EU and Euro-Atlantic institutions.
