Peter Stano: Dialogue should move forward and reached agreements should be implemented, one of which is the Association

The European Union has reiterated its request that Kosovo form the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority. Asked by Radio Evropa e Lire about the conditions set by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, for the establishment of the Association, the EU spokesperson, Peter Stano, said that the bloc does not comment on “all the pronouncements of others”.

He said that he reiterates “the urgency for the EU to move the dialogue forward and implement the agreements reached, one of which is the one for the Association”.

Kurti, who until now has strongly opposed the creation of the mono-ethnic Association, on Thursday revealed to the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo the six conditions for its formation.

According to Kurti, the Association cannot be mono-ethnic, it must be in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the country. It should have a different name and must not have executive powers. The principle of reciprocity between states in terms of the rights of national minorities, based on European models should be included.
The EU has said several times that the agreement which foresees the formation of the Association is an international obligation of Kosovo and that it must be implemented.

The USA has also assessed the formation of the Association as a top priority and has organized a discussion on this issue on January 31.
