Tensions in the north of Kosovo, Kurti interview with the British media “The Guardian”

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in an interview with the British media “The Guardian”, spoke about the situation in the north. Kurti said that the barricades cannot be tolerated for much longer, adding that their removal could cause tensions and casualties.

Kurti said that they want to be as careful as possible in this direction to make sure that there will be no destabilization.

“Our concern is that the removal of these barricades cannot exclude victims. And that is why we want to be as careful as possible to make sure that there will be no destabilization and that peace and security will be sustainable. However, we cannot allow this violation of legality and constitutionality forever. So, yes, this should end, the sooner the better”, said Kurti for “The Guardian”.

Kurti said that the United States of America and the European Union are of the same mind for the removal of the barricades, but that they are also worried about how this situation will be used.

“The EU-US all agree that the barricades must be lifted. But they are also worried about how this could be used and abused by Belgrade. I think that the concern of our Western partners and friends is Belgrade’s ties with Moscow. We don’t know how they can be put into operation in case of increased tensions, towards escalation in the north”, stated Kurti.
