Tensions in the north of Kosova, Lajcak and Escobar meet today with President Vucic

The European Union envoy for the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, and the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, will meet this Wednesday with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic regarding the situation in the north of Kosova. The visit of Lajçak and Escobar to Belgrade comes after the meeting held with the Prime Minister of Kosova, Albin Kurti. In the meeting with the latter, emphasis was placed on the urgent need for a political solution to restore freedom of movement for everyone and to find a Kosova-Serbia dialogue.
Tensions in the north of Kosova were caused by the arrest of a Serb, for involvement in attacks against officials of the Central Election Commission in the north of Kosovo. This led the Serbs to block the main roads in the north by setting up barricades and bombed the Kosovo police and a EULEX patrol. The internationals have called for the barricades to be removed and the parties to refrain from provocative statements and acts and to return to dialogue.
