The US condemns the incidents in the north of Kosova: Avoid provocations that tense the situation

The United States has condemned the violent incidents of recent days in the north of Kosova. This was announced by a spokesperson of the State Department of the Serbian language service of the Voice of America.

“The use of explosives is never an acceptable method of protest and endangers the lives of innocent people,” the US State Department spokesperson told VOA, adding that: “The United States continues to call on Kosova and Serbia to exercise restraint and avoid any action or statement that would further escalate tensions.”

The increase of tensions in the north of Kosova is questioning the holding of the elections on December 18. The authorities have left open the possibility of postponement, which has also been requested by Western diplomats.

The elections were announced after the boycott of Serbian representatives from Kosova institutions amid disagreements over the use of car plates issued by Serbian state.

The electoral process is being boycotted by the Serbian List, which is the main entity of Kosova Serbs, which has the support of Belgrade and has held power in all the municipalities with a Serbian majority.
