Summit/ Osmani: Important initiative, the EU should speak with deeds for the liberalization of visas for Kosovo

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, was received this Tuesday by Prime Minister Edi Rama, to participate in the EU-Western Balkans summit. In her speech to the media, Osmani stated that the summit is an important undertaking by the European Union and the Western Balkans.

Osmani said that Kosovo has shown commitment to EU values in every action it has taken when it comes to 100% harmonization for every foreign policy. According to Osmani, the EU should speak with deeds regarding the liberalization of visas.

“Let me say that I am happy to be at this summit, an important undertaking by the EU-Western Balkans. I hope that the conclusions and statements will show this EU togetherness towards an accelerated process for the Western Balkans. At the same time I am here as the leader of the most pro-European country that exists and in this sense we have shown this commitment from the EU and EU values in every action we have taken when it comes to 100% harmonization with the EU for every external policy. We have been in harmony with the sanctions against Russia and the rejection of any malignant influence. We need the EU to move from words to deeds for visa liberalization. Kosovo will submit the application for EU membership at the end of the year and we hope for full support.

This is a meeting between the EU and the Western Balkans, it is not the place for dialogue and negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo, it is a process that must protect and preserve the territorial integrity, sovereignty of Kosovo and its constitutional system.

At the same time, North Macedonia and Albania have moved forward with the opening of membership talks, and there has also been a decision by EU ambassadors to support the liberalization of visas for Kosovo, and we hope and will call on the leaders to vote in favor of the December 15 conclusions at the council meeting. It will take a step forward to convey a message to the Western Balkans that is valid if you stand by the values of the EU.

Either you are with Ukraine or you are with Russia. This should count. This is the signal that the EU should send to Western Balkans. To stay on the right side of history today is the least that should be worth”, said Osmani.

Further focusing on the tensions with Serbia, Osmani said that Vucic is the continuation of a mindset that existed in the 90s in Serbia.

“Unfortunately, Vucic is the continuation of a mindset that existed in the 90s in Serbia. This mindset led to war and the killing of 150,000 civilians. And the mindset that should be rejected by everyone. Let’s wait for security to do its job. What Kosovo is showing is the opposite of what Vucic is showing, he abandoned cooperation”, said Osmani.
