EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrel says that he will ensure that the main issues and principles related to the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations. The parties must understand that all agreements must be enforced.

The head of the European Union’s foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said that Kosovo and Serbia reached an agreement on license plates and the parties agreed on measures to avoid further escalation and to focus fully on the proposal for the normalization of relations between them.The agreement was reached shortly before midnight on Wednesday when the deadline set by the Kosovo government expired.

“Serbia will stop issuing license plates with the names of the cities of Kosovo, and Kosovo will stop further actions regarding the re-registration of vehicles. I will invite the parties in the coming days to discuss the next steps, on the proposal presented in September by the EU mediator and supported by France and Germany,” said a statement by Josep Borrell. He underlined that “the European Union will ensure that the main issues and principles related to normalization will be addressed in the context of the proposal and the parties understand that all past agreements reached in the talks must be implemented.”
