Kosova license plates: Until November 21 only a reprimand, on April 21 a total ban

Kosovan Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has announced that the Government’s decision that the license plates issue remains in force, but some changes have been made.

According to this plan, the escalation of measures will be done in several stages, where in the first stage, from November 1 to November 21, there will attention drawing or, in other words, ‘reprimanding’ measures, in the second stage, between the 21 from November to January 21, there will be issued a fine, but the concrete figure has not yet been determined, while in the third stage foresees prohibition of all test license plates for two months, i.e., from January 21 to April 21. After April 21, there will be no more other license plates.

“KM, GL license plates are illegal license plates. Through the decision, the Government of Kosova has obliged them to return the RKS license plates. We have held discussions both internally and with the ministry, and we have come to the conclusion to propose a decision that steps up the implementation of the Decision. Until November 21, it will be the measure of reprimand. From November 21 to January 21 will be the measure of the fine. From January 21, we will have trial license plates for three months. After April 21, there will be no other license plates in the Republic of Kosova”, said Kosova Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

According to the previous decision of the Government of Kosovo, citizens in the north who have license plates issued by Serbia, could convert them until October 31 and that after this date, cars with such license plates would not be able to traffic in the state territory, or cross the border.

European Union has called on both sides, Kosova and Serbia, to refrain from actions that could lead to an escalation of the situation.
