Radio and Television of North Macedonia will not participate in Eurovision next year due to costs increase

Radio and Television of North Macedonia informed the public opinion that it has decided not to participate in Eurovision next year. This music event will be held in the United Kingdom. According to the announcement, this decision is considered to be in the best interest of the citizens, given the increase in costs due to the energy crisis, which occupy a large part of the Public Service budget, as well as the increase in the registration fee for participation in “Eurosong. 2023”, which until last year was 39,143.00 euros, while the next year is expected to be higher.
“This decision will make it possible to save the funds that should be allocated for the Macedonian delegation’s stay in Liverpool, where the Eurosong 2023 will be held. However, MRT will broadcast the event, the two semi-final nights and the grand final on its services. MRT hopes that after the stabilisation of the situation, the country will return again with participation in Eurovision in 2024”, reads the press release.
