At the diplomatic meeting in New York, Osmani demands an “urgent” closure of the visa issue

On September 20, Borrell held a meeting in New York with the leaders of six countries of the Western Balkans. The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, said that she requested an “urgent” closure of the issue of visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo, during the meeting with the representative of the European Union, Josep Borrell. She has emphasized Kosovo’s commitment to “peace and stability and the Euro-Atlantic path”.
Kosovo is the only country in the region that is not part of visa-free movement in the Schengen area. Recently, it has been said that this process has entered the decisive phase and it has been warned that there is good momentum to push this issue forward.
The meeting of the leaders of the Western Balkans with the head of diplomacy of the EU, Josep Borrell, was held at the time when the meetings of the General Assembly of the United Nations take place in New York.
The European Union mediates the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia aimed at the complete normalization of relations. Borrell himself, during the last round of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia – which was held after the increase in tensions in the north of Kosovo – said that at the time when Russia is continuing its occupation of Ukraine, “it is not the time for tensions increase, it is time to find solutions and to resolve minor disputes”.
