Lajçak unexpected meeting with Albin Kurti in Pristina

Prime Minister Albin Kurti held a meeting with the Special Representative of the European Union, Miroslav Lajçak.

The European Union’s special envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, said that the purpose of his visit to Pristina is to “advance” this process. Lajçak spoke briefly to journalists after the meeting he held on Thursday with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and his deputy, Besnik Bislimi. He said that at the meeting they talked about the “continuation of the dialogue” and about the next meeting of Kurti with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.

Kurti and Vucic met for the last time in Brussels on August 18.

“The next meeting will take place as soon as it is prepared. That’s one of the reasons why I’m here today. We want to make sure that the meeting has substance and will produce something. Both leaders are ready to meet, the EU is ready to welcome them, but we are preparing the agenda,” said Lajcak, without giving any specific date.

Lajcak said that he will not continue his visit to Serbia, but that he will return to Brussels.

He said that he can meet Vucic in New York, where, next week, the General Assembly of the United Nations begins its work.

The Government of Kosovo issued a statement to the media, according to which, Kurti repeated in the meeting with Lajcak that “the goal of the dialogue should be to reach a legally binding agreement, with mutual recognition at the center”.
