Dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia/ EU invites Prime Minister Kurti and President Vucic to a meeting in Brussels

After the tensions in the north of Kosovo on July 31, the EU has invited the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti and the Serbian President Aleksandër Vucic to a meeting within the dialogue between the two countries.
Although the Prime Minister of Kosovo stated earlier that he should meet with President Vucic on July 19, the meeting between them was postponed to the end of August.
“We are for a well-prepared, principled, balanced dialogue towards a legally binding agreement that makes the full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, focused on mutual recognition. The readiness on our part exists”, said Kurti in a conference with journalists.
The head of foreign and security policy of the European Union, Josep Borrel, has invited Kurti and Vucic for the next meeting in Brussels, talks which will be facilitated by the European Union and the next meeting is expected to take place at the end of August.
There is still no exact date for the meeting aimed at avoiding tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.
Meanwhile, on August 1, Borrell, while evaluating the Kosovo government’s decision to postpone the reciprocity for the Serbian target by 30 days, declared that the open issues between the two countries should be addressed through talks facilitated by the EU.
“The open issues must be addressed through dialogue facilitated by the EU and focusing on the comprehensive normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, essential for their integration paths in the EU,” said Borrell.
The President of Serbia has confirmed that he will go to the meeting, but says that he does not expect anything from the meeting with Prime Minister Kurti.
“I will go to Brussels, but I don’t expect anything. Anyone who thinks that peace is likely to be preserved with Kurti is very wrong,” said Vucic.
For his part, the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Kurti on August 2. Stoltenberg has called on both sides to avoid unilateral actions and support the dialogue mediated by the EU.
“I spoke with Albin Kurti about the recent tensions in Kosovo and the continued importance of the NATO and KFOR mission. All parties should maintain calm, avoid unilateral actions and support the dialogue mediated by the EU. I remain in close contact with Pristina and Belgrade”, wrote Stoltenberg on Twitter.
We recall that on the evening of July 31, the situation in the north of Kosovo became extremely tense, reaching the point of using weapons by the Serbs who placed 9 barricades on the connecting roads after the decision of the Kosovo government to establish reciprocity in travel documents and Serbian license plates.
