The American ambassador in Prishtina, Jeffrey Hovenier, has confirmed that the decisions of the Government of Kosovo for reciprocity with Serbia on the issue of license plates and entry-exit documents were “fully coordinated with the international community”, reports Gazeta Express.
Hovenier wrote on Twitter that the US welcomes the decision of Kosovo’s leaders to temporarily suspend these reciprocity measures.
“The US welcomes the decision of Kosovo’s leaders to temporarily suspend the implementation of reciprocity measures for license plates and entry/exit documents, both measures are fully in line with the Brussels agreements and were coordinated with the international community,” the American ambassador wrote.
In the north of Kosovo, a tense situation was ctreated on Sunday evening, shortly before two decisions that the Government of Kosovo took at the end of June came into force.
After the shootings, setting up of barricades and incidents that created an atmosphere of war near the border crossings with Serbia in Jarinje and Bërnjak, the Government of Kosovo backed down.
Ambassador Hovenier intervened by meeting with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who were asked to postpone the implementation of these two decisions. The request was accepted.
