Slovenian President writes to Michel: Albania and Macedonia should be given the green light in June! Visa liberalization for Kosovo

The President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, has sent a letter to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, in which he demands that Bosnia and Herzegovina be granted the status of a candidate for EU membership without conditions.
As the President of Slovenia pointed out in the letter, this move would further strengthen the pro-European forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the dynamics of internal adaptation to European norms.
“In light of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine and the consequences of the war for European security, the importance of the EU as an important guarantor of security and stability is being reaffirmed more and more. While I sincerely support all efforts to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. A Balkans that is increasingly moving away from the European perspective,” writes Pahor.
He said that he was particularly concerned about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“In this country, the negative consequences of the slow process of EU enlargement are best seen. In this situation, nationalism and the tendency to change borders are growing, and all this leads to an even greater instability that threatens the security not only of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its neighborhood, but also of the European Union,” said the Slovenian President.
Therefore, Pahor emphasizes that Bosnia and Herzegovina should be given the status of an EU candidate country. At the end of his speech to Michel, Pahor said that concrete steps are needed for the enlargement of the European Union in the Western Balkans.
“Albania and North Macedonia should be given the green light to start negotiations in June, Kosovo should receive visa liberalization. I believe that both require the political will of the member states, because all three countries meet all the conditions. I want a faster negotiation process. with Montenegro and Serbia”, concluded Pahor.
