The Government of the Republic of Kosovo has held an online  meeting in which it has approved in principle the Initiative for the membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the international organization “Council of Europe ”.

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, has officially submitted Kosovo’s application for membership in the Council of Europe.

Gërvalla announced that from today the procedures start for review of the request by the Council . According to her, she is optimistic that Kosovo will be a member of this human rights organization.

The decision adopted today obliges the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora to conduct all membership procedures based on the legislation in force.

The Council of Europe is the oldest intergovernmental organization in Europe whose main purpose is to ensure cooperation and unity among its members in the field of protection of human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
