Escobar and Lajçak today in Kosovo, dialogue and Association key topics to be discussed

The EU Special Envoy for the Ballkans Gabriel Escobar and the Emissary for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue Miroslav Lajcak are visiting today Kosovo.
According to analysts, the meeting will focus on the implementation of the agreements reached in Brussels between the two sides, while special emphasis will be given to the continuation of the dialogue with Serbia.
Lajçak in an exclusive interview for the Express newspaper said that the Association Agreement should be implemented but no sane person wants “Republika Srpska” in Kosovo. Serbia has the right to submit its proposals for the Association, but Kosovars will not be forced to sign anything detrimental to their country.
Lajcak also indicated the reason why he will receive Gabriel Escobar as a “reinforcement” in this meeting, as well as in a similar visit to Belgrade. He has said that they have close ties with the Biden administration and that they are in close contact with Escobar all the time.
“We work very closely with the administration of Joe Biden. We are in regular and close contact with Gabriel Escobar. This will be the first opportunity to travel to Pristina and Belgrade together. The goals of this meeting I can say are three. First, to show the message of unity, to show that the dialogue is mediated by the EU and supported by the US. “Second, to listen to the partners and discuss with them how to move forward with the process and, third, to discuss some current issues,” he told the Express newspaper.
Even Escobar in an interview with the Reporter said that the reached agreements must be respected.
“We expect both Kosovo and Serbia to respect previous commitments. The Government of Kosovo has pledged to have an Association of Serb-majority municipalities (AKS). The United States does not and will not dictate what this Association should do or what its competencies should be; “This is a sovereign decision that the government of Kosovo must take,” said Escobar.
Among other things, from this visit, according to experts in the dialogue process, the Kosovo side will be required to implement the agreements reached in Brussels, with special emphasis on the establishment of the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities.
The issue of dialogue between the two countries has remained pending since last year, when Kosovo-Serbia political tensions began to rise.
