Report on Kosova in the European Parliament Calls for the Removal of EU Sanctions

Riho Terras, the Kosova Rapporteur in the European Parliament, is preparing the annual draft report on Kosovo’s situation and its progress toward European Union membership. The draft, set to be presented on February 20 at a session of the Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasizes that Kosovo’s future lies in the EU and calls on member states that have yet to recognize Kosovo to do so without further delay.

The report, developed in consultation with partners and reflecting the European Commission’s findings, highlights significant strides in justice, security, and the fight against organized crime, while expressing concern over limited progress in the rule of law. It also criticizes EU measures imposed last June in response to tensions in Kosovo’s north, urging their immediate removal.

In addition, the document supports Kosova’s aspirations to join the Council of Europe and NATO’s Partnership for Peace, calls for greater transparency in media ownership and funding, and stresses the importance of holding those responsible for recent violent incidents accountable. The report further backs the ongoing dialogue between Kosova and Serbia, welcoming the appointment of a new EU Special Envoy to advance this process.

Members of the European Parliament will soon have the opportunity to propose amendments before the report is voted on and adopted as a resolution.
