Self-Determination Movement Wins Elections in Kosova, Kurti Expects His Party to Form the New Government

Kosova’s incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, stated during a government meeting that his party, the Self-Determination Movement (Lëvizja Vetëvendosje), as the clear winner of the February 9th elections, is set to form the country’s new institutions.
“As the clear winner of these elections, the citizens expect us to fulfill our obligation of forming the institutions for the ninth legislature as soon as possible. Until then, I expect you, esteemed government cabinet, to continue working and maintaining the good work at the same pace,” PM Kurti said.
Prime Minister also urged the Kosova Central Election Commission (CEC) to exercise increased vigilance in safeguarding the voters’ will and completing the vote-counting process.
“We all expect the Central Election Commission to engage more actively in concluding the counting process, while ensuring the protection of voters’ will to finalize a free, fair, and democratic election with massive citizen participation, for which I thank everyone,” Kurti added.
Kurti also commended the participation of the Diaspora in the February 9th elections.
“The Diaspora’s participation reached the highest levels ever, and for the first time, in addition to voting by mail, they had the opportunity to vote at our embassies and consulates,” Kurti noted.
Kosovo held its general elections on February 9th, with over 40% of eligible voters casting their ballots.
According to preliminary results from the KQZ, the Self-Determination Movement ranked first, followed by the Democratic Party of Kosova, the Democratic League of Kosova, the Alliance for the Future of Kosova, AAK–NISMA (Initiative) coalition, and the Serbian List.
