On April 1, 1943, in the city of Shkodër, was born Rikard Ljarja—renowned actor, director, and screenwriter, whose name resonates across generations of Albanians through his unforgettable roles in theater and cinema.

In 1960, he completed his secondary education in Shkodër, and by 1965, he had graduated from the “Aleksandër Moisiu” Higher School of Acting in Tirana.

For eight years following his graduation, he graced the stage of the “Migjeni” Theater in Shkodër as an actor. From 1973 to 1996, he became an integral figure at Kinostudio, where he left his mark as an actor, screenwriter, and director. His artistic journey continued from 1996 to 2002, when he served as the artistic director of the Albanian Public Television, before retiring.

A charismatic presence on screen, Rikard Ljarja etched himself into the public memory with his iconic portrayals: the devoted sentinel Dedë in Rrugë të bardha, the idealistic teacher Dritan Shkabaj in Komisari i dritës, and the enigmatic Skënder in Duel i heshtur.

Rikard Ljarja remains one of Albania’s most beloved actors. He passed away on April 20, 2020, at the age of 77, after battling a long illness. His legacy, however, endures, immortalized in the stories he brought to life on stage and screen.
