On Safer Internet Day, under the leadership of Tirana for the Southeast European Cooperation Process (SEECP), the National Authority for Cybersecurity (AKSK), in collaboration with the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, hosted a regional cybersecurity meeting. The event brought together representatives from 13 SEECP member countries and international organizations, focusing on cybersecurity challenges and strengthening cooperation to create a safer digital environment.

Igli Tafa, Director of AKSK, highlighted that cybersecurity can no longer be tackled by individual countries alone; it requires close coordination and ongoing collaboration. He pointed out that cyberattacks targeting one country can have ripple effects across the entire regional digital ecosystem. “Therefore, sharing information on threats, establishing joint mechanisms, and investing in cybersecurity are no longer optional but essential,” Tafa emphasized.

Antonela Dhimolea, National Coordinator for SEECP, highlighted the importance of aligning cybersecurity policies with those of the EU and NATO to address hybrid threats and bolster digital resilience.

Arslan Umut Ergezer, Deputy Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), stressed the value of regional cooperation and knowledge-sharing to enhance digital security and increase public trust in institutions. “The threats are real, but so are the solutions. By strengthening cooperation and sharing knowledge, we can build a safer and more resilient region,” he stated.

During the discussion, participants shared strategies and experiences on building defensive capabilities, exchanging threat information, and strengthening partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, and academia.

The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to deepen regional cooperation and align efforts with global cybersecurity standards, supporting the integration of SEECP member countries into European and international security frameworks.
