Elections, Kallas and Kos: We Expect the Formation of the Government, Kosova to Implement Dialogue Agreements

In a joint statement, European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, while congratulating Kosovo on the peaceful and competitive elections held on February 9, announced that the EU expects the formation of the new Assembly and government.
Kallas and Kos assured continued European Union support for Kosovo on its path towards EU integration.
“According to preliminary findings, the elections were peaceful and competitive, with the participation of all groups, and a new electoral law was applied. The campaign was lively, and the overall process demonstrated resilience and commitment to democratic principles.
We expect the formation of the new Assembly and Government and the continuation of our engagement with the authorities to support Kosova in advancing towards the EU and fully benefiting from important opportunities like the Western Balkans Growth Plan.
We urge the authorities in Kosova to engage in responsible regional cooperation and intensify efforts to strengthen the rule of law and public administration, as well as to protect freedom of expression. Progress in normalizing relations with Serbia is the only way for Kosovo to make progress on its European path,” the statement reads.
In the conclusion of their statement, Kallas and Kos also addressed the process of normalizing Kosovo-Serbia relations, calling on Pristina to implement the commitments arising from the Dialogue Agreement.
“Kosova is expected to implement its commitments arising from the Roadmap for Normalization, as well as all past Dialogue agreements, without delays or additional conditions. There is no alternative to the EU-facilitated Dialogue.
Kosova submitted an EU membership application in December 2022. The Commission remains available to prepare an Opinion on Kosova’s membership request whenever the Council requests it,” the statement concludes.
