Historic Moment for Culture as Kosovo Unveils Winning Design for Opera and Ballet Theater

Kosovo is set to have its own Opera and Ballet Theater.
In a special ceremony, the winning design for Kosovo’s Opera and Ballet Theater was presented, with attendees considering it a historic day for the culture and arts of the country.
The event was opened by the Minister of Culture, Hajrulla Çeku, who expressed his joy that this building, after nearly five decades, will offer Pristina a new icon of contemporary architecture, standing alongside one of the gems of modern architecture, the Youth and Sports Palace.
The winning design of the theater will be developed by the world-renowned architect Bjarke Ingels and his studio BIG. Ingels was personally present in Pristina to present the project to the attendees.
The theater will feature a concert hall with over 1,200 seats, a theater hall with 1,000 seats, as well as a concert room and a theater room, each with 300 seats. It will also include an underground parking garage with over 400 parking spaces, located near the inner ring of Pristina, and will provide a distinctive passageway between the Youth and Sports Palace and the “Arbëria” neighborhood.
