Berat has lost a prominent figure, historian and collector Parashqevi Sahatçi (Salepi), whom Mayor Ervin Demo referred to as the “Lady of Photography.”

Her love for her city, Berat, intertwined with her passion for photography, allowing her to immortalize through her camera and collection a range of events from social, political, and cultural life.

Mayor Demo stated that, thanks to the rich collection of the esteemed Parashqevi Sahatçi and her publications, we now possess a comprehensive album of the city’s historical memory.

In a social media post, Ervin Demo expressed his condolences to the family for the loss of their beloved member, as well as paying tribute to her enduring legacy.

In Berat, teacher Parashqevi Sahatçi was known as a beloved educator for generations who she nurtured in the city of “the one above the one-windowed houses.” In addition to the title “Master of Arts” awarded by President Bujar Nishani, she was honored in 1979 with the title of “Naim Frashëri” for her work as a historian and ethnographer, and in 1990, she received a “Medal for State and Social Services.”
