Kosovo Assembly in 13th Attempt to Constitute Itself

Deputies of the Kosovo Assembly are set to make a 13th attempt today to constitute the new legislature, after repeated failures to elect the Speaker. On Wednesday, the 12th effort collapsed once again as the acting chair, Avni Dehari from Vetëvendosje (LVV), insisted on a secret ballot for electing the Speaker.
Dehari called on political parties to propose names for a verification commission required for the secret vote, but other parties refused to cooperate. Although 113 deputies were present, the session was suspended due to a lack of quorum for forming the commission.
Only 56 deputies supported the change to secret voting, with one vote against and the rest abstaining.
The process has been stalled since the inaugural session on April 15, as LVV and its coalition partners Guxo and Alternativa have so far failed to secure the required 61 votes for their nominee, Albulena Haxhiu. The next session is scheduled for May 9.
