On May 23, 1820, forces were mobilized by Ali Pasha Tepelena for an anti-Ottoman front.
Ali Pasha was faced with continuous clashes with the Porte and his sworn enemy, Mehmet Sait Halet Efendi, who aimed to destroy him.
Amid growing uncertainty at the court, cooperation with the Arvanite rebel forces was deemed beneficial by Ali Pasha.
Thanks to this alliance, control over the southern region up to Thessaly was secured.
News of this reached the court of Sultan Mahmud II.
This act of siding with the “rebels” ultimately decided Ali Pasha’s harsh fate in the following years.
These efforts to form the anti-Ottoman front are remembered as one of the most important developments in Albanian historiography.
