Rama Urges Europe to Develop a Strong Peace Plan for Ukraine

Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025 in Rome. The event focuses on supporting Ukraine’s rebuilding after the war. Upon arrival, Rama was welcomed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
The conference gathers world leaders, EU and G7 representatives, international organizations, financial institutions, and the private sector. They coordinate aid and strategic investments for Ukraine.
Rama spoke about Albania’s commitment to help Ukraine during this difficult time. He said Albania has limited resources but stands firmly with Italy and European partners. “We will be there whenever Ukraine needs us,” he stated.
He emphasized the importance of peace. Rama recalled Pope Francis’s recent passing and said peace must remain a priority. He warned against letting the word “peace” divide societies or justify conflict.
Rama stressed that Ukraine is not the aggressor. He rejected any lessons on peace or war given to Europe. He acknowledged no simple solution ends the war. Talking about peace alone cannot stop fighting or change aggressors into peacemakers.
In conclusion, Rama said supporting Ukraine is crucial. Yet, ending the war needs a strong and courageous peace plan. He declared peace is Europe’s only future. Quoting Pope Francis, he said he feels the presence of the future, not the past.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference is the main global event for Ukraine’s rebuilding. The 2025 Rome conference follows meetings in Lugano (2022), London (2023), and Berlin (2024). It aims to keep governments, businesses, financial institutions, and civil society engaged in Ukraine’s recovery.
More than 5,000 people attended. The participants included around 100 official delegations, 40 international organizations, 2,000 companies (about 500 Italian), and many local and civil society representatives.
The conference reinforced the world’s commitment to Ukraine’s recovery and peace.
