UK Ambassador and President Osmani Discuss Political Deadlock

On July 22, 2025, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. Jonathan Hargreaves, held an official meeting with the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Ms. Vjosa Osmani.
Both parties emphasized that the continued political deadlock poses serious challenges to the democratic functioning of the institutions. Ambassador Hargreaves commended President Osmani for her efforts to seek a solution in line with Kosovo’s Constitution.
He underlined the responsibility of all political parties to place the national interest above partisan agendas and to contribute to a resolution.
On the same day, President Osmani also met with the U.S. Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires in Kosovo, Ms. Anu Prattipati. Discussions focused on the current parliamentary situation and the prospects for forming a new legislature.
Following the meetings, President Osmani announced in a press conference that she had submitted a request to the Constitutional Court. The request seeks clarification on the legal consequences if the Assembly is not constituted by the July 26 deadline, as set in the Court’s June 26 ruling.
She stressed that the request does not prejudge the process and remains withdrawable should a political agreement be reached.
Kosovo held parliamentary elections on February 9, 2025. However, new institutions have yet to be established. The President has also requested a provisional measure from the Constitutional Court to suspend the deadline while awaiting official interpretation.
