Council of Ministers Declares Konispol an Urban Architectural Ensemble with Historic and Cultural Value

The Council of Ministers approved the designation of Konispol as an Urban Architectural Ensemble with special historic and cultural significance.
“This decision paves the way for the protection, restoration, and promotion of this rare heritage site,” wrote Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja on social media.
Konispol represents a unique urban and cultural identity in southern Albania. Its traditional houses date back to the 19th and 20th centuries. The town features traces of an old market, characteristic stone architecture, cobbled streets, neighborhoods named after clans, and ancient settlements at Qafa e Ktismave.
“Throughout history, Konispol has been a center of national resistance and culture. Today, this new status marks an important step toward sustainable development through cultural tourism and heritage protection,” said Minister Gonxhja.
He noted that the decision follows work by the National Institute of Cultural Heritage to ensure the preservation and valorization of immovable assets with special value.
