The Ministry of Education and Sports has launched the 2025–2030 Digital Education Action Plan to modernize Albania’s education system. With a budget of 6 billion Lek, the plan prioritizes infrastructure, teacher training, and curriculum reform.

It aligns with Albania’s Digital Agenda and the EU’s 2021–2027 Digital Education Action Plan, aiming to equip students and teachers with core digital skills for a tech-driven world.

Minister Ogerta Manastirliu stated that every student must be ready for the modern job market through digital competence.

The plan sets out six strategic goals, each with specific actions and allocated funding. The largest investment, 5.5 billion Lek, will fund 654 Smart Labs in 615 schools, provide 5,500 laptops for teachers, and expand high-speed internet to all institutions. Funding comes from the state budget and partners like the World Bank and the Council of Europe Development Bank.

About 16,000 teachers will train in ICT and digital pedagogy. An online platform will support their ongoing professional development.

The plan also integrates artificial intelligence into ICT programs and teacher training. It aims to prepare students for future technologies and build international partnerships in fields like AI and cybersecurity.

Curricula will be updated to include digital content and teaching materials. Teachers will receive practical guides for using Smart Labs in classrooms.

To address growing online risks, the ministry will launch a national digital safety program. It will offer training and awareness campaigns for students, teachers, and parents.

The plan supports recognition of credits from online courses in high-demand fields and encourages global collaboration in education.

Fully aligned with EU education standards, the initiative strengthens Albania’s path toward European integration. Its success depends on close coordination between the ministry, affiliated institutions, and international partners.
