Albanian-American Organizations Urge U.S. President Trump to Press for Mutual Recognition between Kosova and Serbia

Several Albanian-American organizations have addressed a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump. They urged him to press for mutual recognition between Kosova and Serbia.
The signatories include “Albanians for America” (AFA), Vatra, AARC, Jehona e Malësisë, the Kosova Michigan Association, the Malësia e Madhe Association, the Dukagjini Association, and the Kastrati Association. They praised Trump’s early efforts to bring the two sides to the negotiating table in 2020.
However, the organizations pointed out that Serbia ignored key parts of the Washington Agreement. Moreover, they said Serbia continued to strengthen ties with Russia, China, and Iran. According to them, this undermined regional cooperation and harmed U.S. interests.
The letter stated that Trump holds a unique position to advance the normalization process. In their view, the process must end with mutual recognition within existing borders.
They presented three specific requests. First, they asked Trump to publicly reaffirm U.S. support for mutual recognition. Second, they urged him to encourage both sides to finalize recognition and commit to cooperation. Third, they called for support toward strict enforcement mechanisms and clear deadlines.
Furthermore, the organizations argued that recognition would not be a mere diplomatic gesture. Instead, they described it as the most effective way to end the current deadlock. In their opinion, the unresolved status continues to destabilize the region.
They also recalled Kosova’s past struggles. They said the country’s independence marked a clear U.S. victory. Additionally, they described Kosova’s suffering under Milosevic’s regime. Finally, they stressed that Kosova’s statehood was born out of historical justice and humanitarian need.
