Vedat Kokona was born on August 8, 1913, in Izmir, Turkey, to a family from Gjirokastër. His family returned to Albania, where he began his education. He completed high school at the French Lyceum in Korça. Influenced by his father, who was a lawyer, Kokona studied law in France.

During the years of occupation, he returned to Albania. He resumed teaching at the Lyceum of Korça, giving French lessons. Despite the pressure of fascist educational policies, he returned to his first passion—literature. Alongside writers like Kuteli, Spase, and Hakiu, he became a beloved literary voice of his generation.

At the same time, he worked as a lawyer. After the war, he left the legal profession and focused on teaching and translation. He joined the State Publishing House “Naim Frashëri” as a translator. When the University of Tirana opened, Kokona became a professor of French.

He authored several French language dictionaries. After the 1990s, he received many honors for his lifelong contribution to art and literature.
