Germany Strongly Supports Kosovo’s 100 MW Solar Project

Germany has pledged strong support for Kosovo’s major solar energy project, Solar4Kosovo – 100 MW.
During a visit to the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), German State Secretary for Development Cooperation, Johann Saathoff, confirmed the commitment.
He called the project a clear example of the strong Germany–Kosovo partnership.
He also stressed that solar investment means a cleaner and more secure future for Kosovo.
Germany will continue to support Kosovo’s energy transition in line with EU standards and global climate goals.
Meanwhile, KEK highlighted the project’s importance.
According to their statement, the German government is funding the project through KfW, making it one of the largest German investments in Kosovo.
The project marks a key moment in Kosovo’s shift to renewable energy.
KEK CEO Gramos Hasani welcomed the support.
He said the solar park will diversify energy sources and strengthen KEK’s role in the national energy system.
He added that KEK is moving beyond coal and embracing clean energy.
In addition, Erdoan Zasella, head of KEK’s Renewable Energy Division, shared updates.
The permitting process is underway.
The prequalification tender will open within two months.
Construction is set to begin in 2026, with the first solar energy expected in 2028.
The 100 MW solar park will be built on the former ash dump of “Kosova A” and will cover 153 hectares.The project receives support from KfW, the European Investment Bank, and the EU through WBIF.
