Kosovo Archives Over 345 Meters of War Crime Evidence

Over 345 meters of physical material and 23.6 terabytes of digital data are now stored in the archives of the Institute for War Crimes Committed During the War (IKKL). Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti shared this during the presentation of the annex to IKKL’s research methodology for documenting and investigating wartime economic crimes.

On Wednesday, Kurti stated that documenting economic crimes committed during the war in Kosovo can help build a reliable archive.

He added that the institute holds over 345 meters of physical materials, with more than 500 sources submitted, all carrying significant documentary value.

Atdhe Hetemi, Director of the Institute, said that six regional offices operate across the country.

The Institute for War Crimes Committed During the War was established in November 2023 by a special law.

According to the Kosovo Agency of Statistics, the war affected 154,272 households. The damages to family economies alone—not including institutions—are estimated at over €5 billion.

During the Kosovo war, over 13,000 civilians were killed. More than 20,000 women and men suffered sexual violence. The fate of over 1,600 persons remains unknown.
