President Osmani Urges Parties to Form Kosovo Parliament and Government Quickly

President Vjosa Osmani urged Kosovo’s parliamentary parties to act quickly. She wants them to form a new Parliament and Government according to the Constitution.
The Parliament stalls because parties cannot agree. They must elect a deputy speaker from the Serbian minority. This vote will finalize the Assembly’s formation.
Earlier this week, Kosovo looked close to forming a new Parliament. Members elected the speaker and four deputy speakers. Still, the parties disagree on the Serbian minority deputy speaker.
Osmani stressed that each lost day harms Kosovo. It affects citizens and slows the country’s Euro-Atlantic progress.
In the latest vote, deputies did not approve any Serbian List candidate. Nenad Rashiq, from the Party for Freedom, Justice, and Survival, received 56 votes in favor, 1 against, and 20 abstentions.
Parliament will meet again on Saturday to continue the constitutive session. Separate voting for minority deputy speakers raises constitutional concerns. Osmani avoided commenting on legal interpretations.
Osmani made her remarks at the Monument of the Missing in Pristina. People mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances on August 30.
During the Kosovo war, soldiers and civilians killed around 13,000 people. The conflict displaced over 800,000. About 6,000 went missing, and authorities still cannot account for 1,600. Investigators found hundreds of bodies in mass graves in Serbia.
