President Bajram Begaj expressed condolences today for the death of Dhimitër Anagnosti, one of Albania’s most celebrated film directors.

“Another star has left the constellation of great Albanian artists. Farewell, Dhimitër Anagnosti! Albanians will continue to be captivated by your art,” Begaj said.

Anagnosti passed away at the age of 89. He was born in Vuno, Himarë, on January 23, 1936. His films gained recognition at home and abroad, leaving a lasting mark on Albanian cinema.

Throughout his career, Anagnosti received major honors, including three “Republic Prizes of Albania” (1969, 1979, 1983), several festival awards, and international recognition. His most acclaimed films include “Lulëkuqet mbi mure,” “Në shtëpinë tonë,” “Përrallë nga e kaluara,” and “Gjoleka, djali i Abazit.”*

In 1987, he was named “People’s Artist,” in 1995 he received the “Career Award” at the Albanian Film Festival, and in 2011 he was honored with the title “Honor of the Nation.”

Albania today says farewell to a master of film whose legacy will endure.
