Homages began today for renowned director Dhimitër Anagnosti. Family, friends, and colleagues joined prominent figures from art, cinema, and politics to honor his legacy.

Prime Minister Edi Rama attended the ceremony. In addition, Minister of Culture Blendi Gonxhja participated. Minister of State for Youth and Children Bora Muzhaqi also joined. At the same time, Minister of State for Relations with Parliament Taulant Balla paid tribute. Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha took part in the homage. The event took place at the Hall of the National Theater of Opera and Ballet.

After the ceremony, Prime Minister Rama left a message in the guest book. Likewise, Minister Gonxhja added his remarks.

On Wednesday, September 3, the director will be laid to rest in his hometown of Vuno, Himara. The family will hold the burial ceremony.

Dhimitër Anagnosti passed away yesterday, September 1, at the age of 89. His death grieves not only his family but also art lovers across Albania.

The Albanian government declared September 2 a national day of mourning in his honor. Consequently, flags will fly at half-mast nationwide. State institutions will hold homages to celebrate his contributions.

Anagnosti was born on January 23, 1936, in Vuno, Himara. He completed higher studies at the Film Institute VGIK in Moscow from 1954 to 1960. There, he earned a diploma in cinematography.

He became one of the founders of Albanian cinema. Moreover, he directed numerous feature films and documentaries. His works explored social, historical, and psychological themes. He also contributed as a screenwriter and writer. Later, he engaged in politics. He wrote nearly all the screenplays for his films himself.

During his 40-year career, Anagnosti directed 14 feature films. In addition, he completed 10 documentaries. He won multiple awards in national and international competitions. In 2011, President Bamir Topi honored him with the title “Honor of the Nation.” The recognition acknowledged him as one of Albania’s most distinguished directors.

His most notable films include “Red Poppies on the Walls”, “A Tale from the Past”, “Return of the Dead Army”, “Stones of My House”, and “Gjoleka, Son of Abaz”. Notably, “Gjoleka, Son of Abaz” won two international awards in Italy.
