Kosova Seeks EU Questionnaire for Candidate Status

Kosova’s Acting First Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Development, and Dialogue Besnik Bislimi highlighted reform progress during an informal meeting of European affairs ministers in Copenhagen.

He said Kosova achieved the fastest economic growth in the region. He added that unemployment dropped from 23.8% to 10.9% in four years. He noted that Kosova improved its position in international indexes and doubled foreign direct investment.

During the meeting on “Copenhagen Criteria and Gradual Integration,” Bislimi recalled that Kosova applied for membership in December 2022. He said institutions showed strong readiness. He stressed that the European Union must assess them on merit by granting the questionnaire for candidate status.

Meanwhile, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos joined the discussion. Later, she told the media that Albania and Montenegro advanced earlier in the accession process.

At the same time, the Government of Kosova wrote on X that ministers discussed respect for the rule of law, early benefits for candidate countries, preparations for new members, and communication of enlargement benefits to European Union citizens.
